March 9, 2026We welcome Bishop Keehner to our parish this Sunday afternoon, (on the far side of our Sioux City Diocese). He will preside at the Mass for the Sacrament of Confirmation for those students who will “be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Thank you to our Religious Education directors and volunteers who have been preparing the students for this Sacrament of initiation. As our Catechism teaches us,“by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Catechism #1285).Practically speaking, this Sacrament is not necessarily about the individual choosing to continue following his or her path within the Catholic-Christian faith; rather, it centers on God the Holy Spirit confirming you! God’s initiative or desire to confirm the individual’s integrity of faith and eternal soul, rather than something the person chooses to do for God.To the parents and families of those to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, thank you for sharing your faith and supporting the integrity of your son or daughter through the Christian values and prayer within your homes, and sharing in the Eucharist as a family. As St. Ignatius of Antioch reminds us, young and old, "I wish not merely to be called Christian, but also to be Christian."
