Please see the attached information for the revised retreat schedule. The time frame will be 12-5 pm, later than planned for our original date. We are so glad that our youth will be able to be a part of our parish mission with Eucharistic Revival speaker Anthony Digmann in addition to hearing from our Sioux City friends Fred & Kara from Draw Near. Please see the attached flier. This is a part of our Confirmation program and 9th and 10th graders, but 11th and 12th graders are welcome to attend too!

With all the activities and gatherings and preparations culminating this weekend—with a deep breath and pause to receive the peace of that holy night in Bethlehem—I extend a sincere thank you on behalf of Ascension Parish.

Monday, January 1, is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. This year, the obligation to attend Mass on this date is abrogated.

Next weekend St. Malachy Church celebrates their 100th Anniversary as a parish and community of Catholic faith. 

Last Sunday our students preparing for First Holy Communion received their First Reconciliation. When asked beforehand, yes, they were nervous.

With the blessings of beautiful autumn days and a bountiful harvest we approach the day set aside for our nation to pause with grateful hearts:

National Vocations Awareness Week concludes this weekend, but God isn’t restricted to a schedule, and his ‘calling’ to our respective vocation anytime whether we are aware or not.

Last week I was at the bedside of a woman whose health was deteriorating with hospice providing palliative care.  Two of her adult six children were in their mother’s room, at her bedside. 

In the movie “Rhythm of God” a priest is asked how many were at the early weekday Mass.  He replied, “There were three old ladies, the janitor, several thousand archangels, a large number of seraphim, and several million of the triumphant saints of God.”
