Pentecost Sunday, the birth of our “Church,” reflecting the historical appearance of the Holy Spirit before and upon the disciples, fifty days after Jesus Resurrection (ten days after his Ascension).

“‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you’. . . .When Jesus had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. . . .They were looking intently at the sky as he was going.”

Jesus said to his disciples, “I am the true vine and my Father is the vine grower.  He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.”

Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd.  A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”  Good Shepherd Sunday reflects the constant intention and attention of our Risen Savior for each individual, especially anyone who feels alone, lost, ignored, alienated or simply forlorn. 

We welcome the parents and families celebrating First Holy Communion this Sunday at St. Malachy. 

Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” (JN 20:26-27)

As we enter Holy Week, in eight days, we are given a communal and personal ‘pilgrimage’ with Jesus within his humanity and divinity.

With such a brief interlude from the ending of Christmas season (with Epiphany) to Ash Wednesday this week, we’ve had little to consider our efforts of renewal these upcoming forty days. 

We are creating an email group for individuals wishing to receive more faith-based information via email. This could be Novenas, ways to grow in faith, video series for specific times in the Liturgical year (Lent/Advent), etc. Emails would be limited to an additional 2-3 emails per month.
